Democrats have thrown out the independent Citizens Redistricting Commission, drawing Congressional district maps to wipe out Gavin Newsom’s toughest critics and padding districts for Democrats at risk of losing in 2026. Multiple lawsuits have been filed, and so far, the California Supreme Court is setting aside our Constitution and siding with Newsom and the Democrat-controlled Legislature to make sure Prop 50 is on the ballot in a November 4, 2025 special election.

What you need to know…

The Democrats in the Legislature approved ACA 8 (now Prop 50) in three days, violating the Constitutional mandate to publish all legislation for 30 days so the public has time to review the proposal.

While more lawsuits are in the works, the Supreme Court’s bias is clear, and the Secretary of State is moving forward with the election process. Counties will start mailing ballots to registered voters on October 6, 2025. More details about the election.

Attorney General Bonta, who previously defended the independence of the redistricting process, has written a biased Title and Summary meant to deceive voters into thinking they need to pass this measure to restore the independent commission. The fact is that the Commission would not need to be restored if Democrats hadn’t forced this measure into a special election!

Bonta also failed to state the actual cost to taxpayers of this special election, only referring to “a few million dollars” that will be the responsibility of counties. At the same time, Newsom is promising the State will cover most costs of this election. Where are those figures? Democrats won’t talk about this because we anticipate it to exceed $200 million at a time when California has a deficit and the highest rate of homelessness and poverty in the nation.

There are several campaigns that have launched to oppose Prop. 50, including the CAGOP, and others led by Jessica Patterson, Charles Munger and Kevin McCarthy, and Carl DeMaio.
